The swans and stars the prisoners create are inspired by a form of origami made better known through the work of detainees who had travelled from China to New York on a freighter called the Golden Venture in the nineties. While in prison, they made astonishing and intricate sculptures from small torn pieces of paper, the same method used to make the pieces you see here.
